Countertop Vs Undermount

Countertop basins, as the name suggests, sit on top of your vanity unit or counter, and make a real feature of your basin. So, choose wisely. These basins are popular in both traditional and contemporary bathrooms, and help to maximise the storage space within your vanity unit.

Undermount basins, on the other hand, are recessed into the countertop of your vanity unit or countertop, creating a sleek, uncluttered aesthetic. Almost all of our undermounts are installed via the underside of your vanity unit’s countertop, though a small selection are inset and guided down through a ready-cut hole.

While these undermount bathroom basins help to create the impression of extended countertop space, the depth of the basin consumes some of the storage space (usually the top-drawer space), within the vanity unit.

Beautiful Bathroom Basins in a Range of Designs and Colours

Stunning Designs

Whether your bathroom interiors scrolling and Pinterest board-building sessions revolve around traditional or contemporary bathroom design, you’ll find the perfect piece to bring your oak vanity unit and bathroom to life, in our range of bathroom basins.

Discover sleek undermount basins in round, spherical, oval, square and rectangular shapes, and beautiful countertop models available in these same stunning shapes, as well as more statement silhouettes such as “egged”, warped and octagon.

Materials & Finishes

Each basin in our range is a high-quality piece made from ceramic, or in some cases, composite materials, which are used to achieve beautifully smooth, straight basin edges.

Crosswater basins are manufactured using the highest-quality porcelain and MaterialLucite acrylic stone, and feature attractive market-leading scratch and chip resistant finishes to protect your investment, and help to maintain your basin’s appeal long into the future.

Victoria & Albert bathroom basins are made from a specially-developed material called Quarrycast, which is a blend of volcanic limestone and high-performance resin, and achieves a stunning, bright, white finish.

Villeroy & Boch’s ceramic basins are available in either the brand’s Ceramic Plus finish, which features a powerful scratch resistant finish, or their antibacterial finish, which helps to reduce germs and bacteria clinging to your basin.

Pairing Our Bathroom Basins With the Perfect Taps

Undermount or countertop? That is the question.

If you’re a sucker for a statement basin, and you’ve paired your vanity unit with one of our countertop bathroom basins, explore our range of wall mounted taps, or deck mounted tall taps, to ensure you choose taps with the necessary height for your elevated basin.

Or if you’ve found one of our seamless, sleek undermount basins irresistible, discover our range of wall mounted, or deck mounted mono taps, to find the perfect tap for your basin.

Which Waste Do You Need?

Now for perhaps the least exciting, but rather important factor to consider: your basin’s waste.

Our range of bathroom basins span models with and without overflows, which determine the style of waste each model requires.

Overflows are holes that facilitate draining should water reach the level of the hole. The water travels down the overflow, through a tube fitted to the back-side of the overflow hole, into the thread of the plug, down the trap, and out via your outdoor pipes.

If your chosen basin features an overflow, browse our slotted wastes.

If you’ve chosen a basin without an overflow, explore our range of unslotted wastes, which enable the water to drop down the unslotted thread into the waste trap/U bend.

FAQs

What is a bathroom basin?

Also called a bathroom sink, a bathroom basin is found in bathrooms, cloakrooms and en suites, and is used for hand washing, face washing, and daily grooming.

What is a vanity basin?

A vanity basin is a basin/sink within a vanity unit – either situated on top of the counter, or mounted under it (countertop or undermount). A vanity unit provides more than merely the utility of a basin, combining this with stunning cabinetry and storage.

How much is a bathroom sink?

Bathroom sinks range in price significantly, from ultra-affordable models costing under £100, to luxury bathroom basins like those we carry, which range from £149 to £1,045. Explore our collection today.

What is the drain in the sink called?

The drain in your bathroom sink is called a waste. It has two key functions. The first is to seal the basin’s plug hole to enable you to fill up your basin, and the second is to guide water safely down the basin’s waste pipe.

Wastes are available as slotted or unslotted models. If your basin has an overflow, you need a slotted waste. If your basin does not feature an overflow, you need an unslotted waste.

Explore our range of wastes today.

Are sink plugs a standard size?

Bathroom sink plugs, or basin wastes, are a standard size. The choice comes in the form of deciding between a slotted or unslotted waste. If your bathroom basin has an overflow, you need a slotted waste. If your basin does not feature an overflow, you need an unslotted waste.

Explore our range of wastes today.

Do you need an overflow in a bathroom sink?

Your bathroom sink doesn’t require an overflow. However, if you don’t have an overflow, you need to ensure you purchase a slotted waste.

Learn more about basin wastes here, and discover our range today.

What is a standard size bathroom sink?

Bathroom sinks are available in a wide range of sizes. Smaller basins, for small bathrooms, cloakrooms and ensuites, are typically around 300-400mm wide, while basins for larger bathrooms can be from 500-600mm wide.

What is the best material to use for a bathroom sink?

Today, bathroom sinks are made from a huge range of materials, including:

Ceramic and porcelain bathroom basins are wildly popular and fairly durable, unless chipped by a heavy object.
Resin sinks are an excellent choice for contemporary bathroom designs, and the material is used for basins in modern, exciting shapes. They’re a little less durable, with the finish being vulnerable to harsh chemicals.
Stone is the ultimate material choice for spa-like bathrooms, and each model made has a unique aesthetic. This material requires careful maintenance and potentially moisture sealing.
Glass is a less common material, but is rising in popularity, drawing attention to your vanity unit/countertop. These basins can be prone to damage.
